Hightlighting issues, yet again...

I'm still digging  my favorite highlighter pencil and no longer have issues with bleed through on the flip side... but I'm having other highlighter related issues.

I've always tabbed appointments in my Filofax WO2P inserts somehow, most recently with translucent sticky flags (and tiny diary stickers from this shop) but it's not without issues.  First (and most maddening...) Avery no longer makes them so they aren't locally available.  Second, the one's I can find are very expensive considering what they are and... Third, the color appears to be applied on top of whatever the tabs are made of so after a few weeks the color degrades in a random, messy-looking way.  If you look at the edges of the tab above you can see the color is starting to ick-a-fy.

I also would love to highlight varying amounts of text without making a sticky pad puzzle.  I've only found one thing that would work for that; translucent colored highlighter tape available from educational companies but it's not cheap and might have the same issues with degrading over time.

So I decided to make my own...

I purchased double-sided removable tape and sheets of vellum paper.  I believe the colored vellum  won't degrade over time as the color is part of the paper making process, not applied later.  So that solves one problem.

It's hard to see it in the above picture but I placed the tape on lined Filofax paper, mine covered four spaces.  If you look hard you can see the rough edge of the tape to the right of the hole.   I placed the light pink vellum paper over the tape, letting it hang a bit over the edge of paper as a tab, and cut using the lines as a guide.

I added a tiny dogish sticker (on the edge with no goo) to mark Ventura's next pet therapy appointment  and now I have both a tab and a highlighted area.

This is a bit of a fiddly process although certainly not difficult, granted something ready-made is easier. But it was much cheaper then buying similar already made items and I think these will last (if not I'll post) indefinitely; vellum is pretty durable.

The only issues I had at all was the tape dispenser edge isn't well suited for cutting this thick, sticky, and somewhat tear resistant tape and it was difficult to remove from the paper when not peeled away ASAP.  Getting it off the vellum was easy but it seems to grab regular paper pretty quickly so I'm afraid the tape will ultimately stick to the paper and the vellum will release.  Meaning when I try and peel away the tab... I'll be left with vellum in my hand and the double sided tape stuck to the paper.  I'll let you know!

This was a cost saving project but I'm not sure it will work in the end.  Will definitely update when I know.

Filofax charms... for my dogs

I'm putting up a new page later today for Filofax Charms (accessible through a link at the top) but wanted to post here first to introduce it.    The explanation as to why I'm doing it will be at the bottom of the new page but I'm putting it here first.  If you want to just see the charms scroll down a bit.

Why I'm doing this...

I've added this page to help me defray the monthly medical costs for Ginger and Ventura which amount to several hundred dollars each month and hopefully donate to Greyhound Friends of New Jersey as well.  I got Ventura through them and they paid several thousand dollars for his first surgery.  I'd like to give something back to them.

Ventura is a registered therapy dog and we visit nursing homes, adult day care centers, and (soon) assisted living facilities.
Beyond regular vet care Ventura is on several medicines daily for pain and inflammation related to a racing injury he suffered on the track.  The break was left untreated for several months and he's needed four surgeries on his right back leg so far.  He wears a custom orthopedic brace that will hopefully stop the muscle atrophy in that leg and will delay  further surgeries by preventing his join from collapsing any further.

Ginger, my little girl, is twenty now and is having a whole host of medical issues.  She is currently on medicine for seizures, liver disease, arthritis, chronic gum infections, and dementia.  She still enjoys relaxing on the deck in the hot, hot summer. She's much stiffer now but gets around well.  Her cataracts are very bad and she doesn't see (or hear) well anymore but I'm trying to give her at least one more lazy summer on my sunny deck.

Another way to help Ginger and Ventura is by making your Amazon purchases using MY AMAZON AFFILIATE  LINK.

You can use this link to make any and all purchases on Amazon. It won't cost you anything extra and I'll make a small amount for sending you there.

I'm not going to charge a set amount but ask for donations instead.  What I pay to ship varies with weight and location but should cost somewhere between one and two US dollars.   The paypal costs are between three and four percent of the amount plus a $.30 per transaction fee.

Please set your own price using the above as a guide and click the above donate button..  I need to at least cover my costs/fees to make this work.    Anything you send beyond my costs will make a huge difference in the lives of Ginger, Ventura, and I.

Note:  I will try and update immediately.  If two people buy one charm I will send to the first person and refund the other.

Cornflower blue and purple filofax charm

This is a multi-strand charm of cornflower blue and purple beads.  The length of the charm (minus the attached strap) is about 8cm / 3 inches long.

Metallic taupe, bronze, and gold rhinestone filofax charm

This one is spoken for!

Dark teal foil and sea foam filofax charm

This one is about 3 cm / 1.2 inches long (minus the length of the strap).  The beads are a combination of a light, translucent seafoam green and dark teal.  The larger of the teal beads is lined with foil giving it a subtle sparkle.

If there continues to be interest, I will keep making them and if donations work I won't change anything.  If it doesn't I'll update and perhaps move to etsy or ebay.  I'm trying to avoid doing that because there are additional fees involved.

I want to thank everyone for all the sweet feedback about Ginger and Ventura here on my blog, as well as on yourtube and facebook.   They ended up in my videos as a fluke but so many people ask where they are when I don't show them.... Warms my heart.

My Filofax is minty fresh...

I didn't know how I'd feel dialing down the rainbow that was my Filofax  but I'm digging it.

According to wiki planning  is "the process of thinking about and organizing the activities required to achieve a desired goal."   And un-huh, I feel that.   Wiki goes to explain, "an important, albeit often ignored aspect of planning, is the relationship it holds with forecasting. Forecasting can be described as predicting what the future will look like, whereas planning predicts what the future should look like."

And there I had myself.   Figuring out how not to miss set appointments was critical to me but the rest..  the bulk of my good intentions? Goals?  Eh.  I hadn't given that a whole lot of thought.

When I stripped away the artwork (a little, it's not all gone - That's part of who I am) the planning began peeking through again.

"Hello", it said.

"You're still using stickers, I see."  And I responded, " Get a life."

It had a point but, "The stickers I'm using advance me in the direction of goals."  At least that was what I said and I'm sticking to it.

I found some new diary stickers at an Etsy Shop, Kawaii Stickers For you.  I like the way they look but they are small and non-intrusive.   And okay, they are adorable too.

But cross my heart that's not the point.

I had a lot of my Instagram Photos printed recently (there are lots of places that offer this service) and I tacked a few on to a couple o'few fly leafs...

Nothing too colorful, mostly black and whites with a shot of blue photos, that mean something to me.    I got the prints to use in my Midori Traveler's Notebook.  I'm working on my Journal Gram a lot now that I have the photos and thought I'd add a few to my Portland Grand.

I'm enjoying the way things are looking, it feels fresher...  Almost minty.   When I open it, it's clean and easy to see what's what and what's not.  It feels like an honest move in the direction of real goals and it's really never felt like that before.  I think this is a step in a positive direction.
