Goldilocks and the Three Inserts

If you're not failing every now and again, it's a sign you're not doing anything very innovative ~ Woody Allen

Leaning what doesn't work is critical.   Planner fail is often grumbled about but gaining insight is never a waste of time.  Yes, it can be discouraging and yes, setting everything up all over again is a pain if it happens frequently but life is a process.

Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up~Thomas A. Edison

I learned that all over again when I had to redo my Filofax last week.  I certainly gave the vertical month on two pages a good try but no matter what I did or how long I did it, it wasn't happening.  In fact it altered the success I'd had with several inserts for years.

It's fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure~Bill Gates

I learned that my success is not in the daily pages.  I spend the most time pondering about and working on them but I had a feeling they weren't as critical so I did an experiment with them to check my hypothesis .  After changing back to the Filofax Personal WO2P (this time with lines) I changed page styles, daily (one day colored lines, one day graph, day planner sheets, paperchase, etc.)

It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might has well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default ~ J. K. Rowling

And I was right.  It didn't matter a hoot what I wrote my long list of daily stuff to get too, or for that matter what pen I used, whether I used stickers, or tape, or drew something fun.  What paper I used and how cute my page looked wasn't as important as having the right structure, the bones, in place.

Every failure is a step to success ~ William Whewell

For me what works is weekly information bracketing  daily pages. Period (apparently...)   My frustration - and I talked about about it in the last few weeks of videos - wasn't with the pages as I thought but in the depth of the overview (yearly vs. monthly vs. weekly).  It's a little like Goldilocks and the Three bears. Daddy Bear's bed was too hard, Mommy Bear's was too soft and Baby Bear's was just right.  And just right is only one that sings in bear beds and Filofaxes.

Success is not built on success. It's built on failure. It's built on frustration. Sometimes its built on catastrophe ~ Sumner Redstone

I need something beyond daily sheets, an overview, that fits me like Baby Bear's bed - Just right. A view of today and a just few days around today.  It took me a while to realize this but failing is just the final step before success. That's the beauty of it.

Remember the two benefits of failure. First, if you do fail, you learn what doesn't work; and second, the failure gives you the opportunity to try a new approach~ Roger von Oech

I'm glad your set up is finally falling back into place. I've just moved my lined month on 2 pages to the back of my filofax and use it to track income/bills. That is now it's sole purpose. I can keep the year the year in there to review spending and also plan ahead for special occasions. April worked out great! I'm hoping I can stick with it!

Jes, I think your right about that insert having a sole purpose. That makes perfect sense...
