Highlighter Happy Dance

In my last video I mentioned not being happy with most highlighters, the main issues - overly wet and too dark pens.  I considered buying the Moleskine Highlighter Pencils but they are pretty expensive for what they are.

I searched around on Amazon for other products and settled on this one:

I bought this Pentel arts pencil ...but first let me (once again) say how much I love Amazon Prime.  You get free 2 day shipping on items and some come faster then that, I ordered this pen and it came the next day.

The directions were a little confusing at first because it's not like a regular multi-color pen where you just push down a clip to advance your chosen color.  With this pen all colors need to be retracted up in the barrel to advance  the one you want to write with.  And you do it by turning the pen upside down or right side up.

The pencil leads are refillable so even though the pencil retails for around $15 it's something you can have for a long time and it comes with eight 2.0 mm colors. It's not as thick as a traditional highlighter but wider then all the pens I use so it works for me.

The surprising thing was the color quality is great and build-able.  This pen reminds me a lot of  prismacolor art pencils.  You can shade, build up saturation, blend and there is a slightly waxy (rather then chalky/dusty) feel to the lead.

I really like these a lot.  While I was playing around I realized I haven't done any artwork in ages and I really missed it.

And nothing, not a thing,  came through to the other side of the Filofax page even with all the drawing I did.  You can't go over and over things with a traditional liquid highlighter.  All, but one ink, didn't budge when I used the pencil over it (Uniball Signo Angelic Ink Pen).   They have a paint pen finish and are meant to be used with dark paper so they aren't traditional pens.  And by saying it budged, I don't mean a lot.

Just the occasional smudge and that was the most recent thing I wrote.

I need to test this out today and might try and do a video; showing how it works over other pens.  I have a feeling there are a few things I need to know about using it. And I think there will be differences due to the drying times and over-all permanence of varying pens.

I'm doing the highlighter happy dance over it and will update soon!

I still like this pencil a lot. I use it almost every day for something - I would love to find a larger selection of colored leads - I know some people have found different colors and I'm still looking. But I still think this is a great pencil and if it broke I'd rebuy it!
