My BFF

I can't wait to get a look at the new 2013 Filofax line  and eagerly anticipate  images of sparkling new binders as people receive them...

Portland filofax and cross pen

As each new video pops up I'll watch it, probably a dozen times, and go back and forth about ordering it; should I or shouldn't I?  But....

Could I  love a new one more then my old, ragged best Filofax forever (BFF)?    True, there is something magical about newness with it's promise of endless possibility.

But would newness make me happier than my soft, flawed, comfortable as old shoes binder?  As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.

The tension between being progressive and being settled. The older I get, the more I feel it.

Love this post, the Filofax I've been in the longest is my Holborn a5 zip in brown, I've no intentions of changing this but find ways of needing a new one!! :-)

I'm sure I missed it somewhere, but what style of Filofax is this? It looks like one of those high-quality vintage ones. I'd love to know!

And I agree, there's nothing like having a trusted Filo friend. My Buckingham was like that for me for years and years. After about a decade I had so many memories with it, I became afraid to take it out of the house! So now it has a place of honor in retirement as storage for my most important/ sentimental things.

paperscribe - That's a great way to put it!

alison - I feel the same way. I always find reasons to need a new one...

Laurie - Its my original first ever filofax, bought new in Bloomingdales some time before 1990. I usually post what it is but guess I didn't this time.

Still wish I could find a portland grand with 30mm rings. Thats the one I really covet

Thanks for a great post!
I love receiving a filofax in the post, but have decided I'm done. No more! I find with a new one, there can be the promise of new ways of doing things & 'this time it'll be better/different'. However, I've realised that it's actually me & not the filofax! :)

I'm so happy that all is well in your personal Portland! Also LOVE all these pictures. I'm getting so tired of seeing Maldens... They seem to be as ubiquitous as iPhones these days.
