The Crazy Suburban Mom: Tossing a Filofax Lunch Monkey

Tossing a Filofax Lunch Monkey

I love my A to Z  Filofax tabs. So much so, I was turning the Jolly Green Giant into the Jolly Green Gigantic.

I kept more information in there then could reasonably fit and if I kept up the information gathering pace I wouldn't need to size up , I'd need to rent a floor in the Library of Congress.

The Jolly Green Giant  wasn't  so jolly anymore and he was this close to tossing a lunch monkey.

What started as a good A to Z section usage turned into an exhaustive wish list, dream board, idea file, and product review dumping ground.

I had to find a way to sort everything out.  First, I moved coupons  to my dated pages, tacking the coupon cards to weekly sheets (a bit before the expiration dates) so I could use them in time.

Store coupons often expire unused because I kept so many in my wallet they turned into a meaningless, paper jumble so I attached them to the appropriate week as well.

Also I'm more selective, I only keep the ones I want to use.

But there is ton's of other randomness I kept.

Significant daily Oracle Map cards...

My ever growing stamp stash.

And make up information, you can't have too much of that...

perfume

I acquired a lot of perfume samples recently; some I loved  after trying, some I hated but I couldn't remember which so I made a place for them.

I have a page of books I want to get (and DVD's)

And after repurchasing make up I already tried (and hated) a few times, I started a make - up page with swatches; what works... To buy again...Total flops, stuff like that.

Having a place for all these notes worked perfectly but the pictures took up a lot of space.  The other day in  Barnes and Noble I spotted the Vines Portfolio. It was perfect. When I picked it up and looked inside a glittery rainbow shot out from it's pages and I heard Angel's singing.

You can see it's much bigger then my A5 Filofax,  measuring 9.5" x 12.38".

It feels like soft vinyl and the page tops are open so you can slide in what ever strikes you.

And take stuff out  should it's appeal wane.  This alone helped my overly bulkified A to Z section.

It also helped with magazines I had laying around.

My recent decluttering should have helped but the piles weren't dwindling. In fact, they grew every month.  I needed a pace to put the few things I want from each issue and this works. Now I feel okay with throwing out the magazines and my Filofax is no longer in a constant state of gastro-esophageal  reflux.

As the saying goes, A place for everything and everything in it's place makes makes your Filofax a happy camper!

See?

I love the make-up pages idea. I have a bad habit of repurchasing things I've tried and hated. As always, love your visually-lush organization style.

M, So glad to hear I'm not the only one who rebuys things they hated already! Isn't that awful and what a waste of money! I can't believe I've done it so many times - So frustrating! The page is really helping - the makeup swatches don't look like they do on skin but they are good enough for an idea of the color. The nail colors work great though and the color is much closer!

There's a few colors that I loved but hated the formula - I bought tons of other one's trying to find a close match with a better formula. But I'm always guessing if it's close, now I can use the swatches.

I just a few days ago did a page by page review and removed as much as I easily could, and the rings are still somewhat overstuffed. Oh well.

Josh, it's always like that :)

Tossing a lunch monkey? Is this a yankee saying I've never heard of or just a Jersey line? What does it mean specifically because I like it and I want to use it properly?

Angel, my son taught me that one! No idea where it came from :) It means vomit... basically :) Like toss your cookies, lose your lunch.... spew... blow chunks

Haha love it!!

Love it. I will teach my boys it and at a school in Liverpool there will be a group of Jersey boys who talk of tossing lunch monkeys. Gross.
