Today's Vintage Image, Masonite May 6, 2012

This is one of my favorite images.   I like it more and more every time I see it.  There isn't one thing in it I wouldn't want.

It's from a magazine called Household February, 1958. Household was a magazine published by Capper Publications in Topeka Kansas.

Masonite was invented in 1924 by William H. Mason,a friend and protégé of  Thomas Edison. In the 1930s and 1940s Masonite was used for many applications including doors, roofing, walls, desktops, and canoes.

It was sometimes used for house siding but that didn't work out so well. Masonite rots when exposed to the elements.  In 1996, International Paper (then owner) lost a class action suit brought by homeowners whose Masonite siding had deteriorated.

So how well did it hold up inside the house is the question?
