Nail Polish of the Day, Revlon Whimsical

Every time I walked by Whimsical ($5) in the last few weeks I was tempted to buy it; even had it in my cart a few times.    Each time I put it back because if there's one thing I don't need, it's more nail polish.

But this last time, on the way home from my tooth extraction...  Under the influence of something strong and relaxing,  waiting at the pharmacy for pain pills -- I  realized you only want nail polish, not need it...  Plus I was in a lot of pain at the time and the name,  pretty colors and all that glitter was just calling me.

I put it on last night and it's just giggly!

It reminds me of cup cakes for some reason.

I did use a one coat of a light blue polish , two coats of Whimsical and a top coat.  I don't remember what the blue was, some cheap thing with awful coverage but the right blue...

I really like it and it's wearing nicely.  One day in and there are no chips or hunks out of it - I like that in a polish.

The application is a bit of a deal, you can wear it alone but you won't get a blue tint without, maybe four coats...  From what I've read in reviews some people like it that way.  I think that would be a very long manicure because it's pretty slow to dry, even with Seche Vite over it.  Can't imagine how long four or five coats of this would take to dry.

For me, a coat of blue followed by two of Whimsical worked well.  On the second coat I 'placed' the glitter a bit.  This polish isn't meant to give all over glitter but unless you work at getting it on right you could end up with an almost glitterless nail.  That's not just this polish, it's more this kind of polish but it does make the whole process a bit fiddly.

Despite all that I love the result and I will do my nails like this again, but maybe with a better blue on the base.

As an aside:

Whimsical is supposed to be a dupe for Deborah Lippmann's Glitter in the Air.  I haven't tried it but I've read other reviews and a lot of people actually like Whimsical better because after a few, four or so coats, people wear it as it...

Most people don't find Glitter in the Air wearable as it no matter how many coats they use even though they look almost identical in the bottle.

It's also $18 which is four times the price.

I've found that more expensive polishes wear better but with the reviews I've read, seems I was better off with Whimsical.

Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ 1/2 out of five hearts

I love the way Whimsical looks and would give that a 4 for looks but there is the drying time, and the working with glitter placement issue and you really have to use a second color to have it look like it does in the bottle so I'm dropping off half a star because using it's a bit of a project.

** 2/21/12 Update: Three days on and it looks as good as it did the first day, for all the complaining I did about it being fiddly to work with it, it wears like armor.  Amazing.**

*Bought this myself. Revlon doesn't know about me or my dental pain*
