The quietude of it all

I've been quite the last few days.

Strange for me. I know.   I'd just been enjoying the view so darned much.  The sound of the waves just lowers my blood pressure to a Hello, is she conscious level.

And even though nothing would make me happier than living down the shore cause that's what it called in New Jersey, you know - Down the shore - I'm more than a little afraid if I lived there I'd be reduced to the genetic equivalent of human  mixed with pale-throated three-toed sloth.

Albeit one with excellent blood pressure.

How 'bout a heaping scoop of kitty litter cake? Yum...

kitty litter cake

Uh-huh,  a dessert.  Served in a litter pan...with a scoop.

That cup o' dirt with worms thing pales in comparison to the magnitude of serving edible kitty litter.  Believe me.  And I've served it to adults.

Now that's fun.

I posted about the  Kitty Litter Cake  at least once and  promised to post the recipe and today's the day.   I've made it a few times. Honestly, the kids look as horrified as the adults but eventually every takes, scoop.

In case you have an odd sense of humor here is the original  recipe -- I did a few things differently and I noted those after.

1 spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 white cake mix
1 large pkg vanilla instant pudding mix
1 pkg vanilla sandwich cookies
Green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls
1 new (and definitely unused) kitty litter pan
1 new plastic kitty litter pan liner
1 new Pooper Scooper

Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).

Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.

Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup.

To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar.

When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. (Mix in just enough of the pudding to moisten it. You don't want it soggy. Combine gently).

Line new, clean kitty litter box.

Put mixture into litter box.

Put three unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable.

Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture.

Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top.

Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly over the top. (This is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.)

Heat 3 Tootsie Rolls in the microwave until almost melted.

Scrape them on top of the cake; sprinkle with cookie crumbs.

Spread remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top; take one and heat until pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box, sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs.

Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around.

Serve with a new pooper scooper.

In my experience with doing the recipe:

1. I used German chocolate cake mix and while it was YUMMY I found the color and look of the cake too dark. German chocolate cake mixes used to be a lighter color but no more... If I could have found spice cake mix (I couldn't) I might have used that, it would have had a much more 'sandy', litter-ish look. Although I don't know I really dislike spice cake .  My guess is the best option is to use a white cake mix and add a gray food coloring -- the professional stuff.

2. Pre-made pudding is easiest and the less pudding the better.  When I make this cake at home to bring  someplace I put everything in baggies and assembled it in the litter box when I arrive. It works best if assembled right before eating because the pudding will make it soggy if it sits too long.  What could be worse than eating soggy litter, right?

3. You can't have too many tootsie rolls. Surprisingly. The recipe doesn't call for nearly enough!

Well, that's the magic that is a kitty litter cake...

Retro Tuesday is lousy with aqua

Seems I'm in an aqua state of mind for Retro Tuesday.

retrotuesay stamp

It's all the decluttering that's got me reevaluating and really seeing what I've got and I'm sick of  gold.

And every page in every magazine seems to feature  aqua.

Of course when you're talking the 50's and 60's it makes sense.

(This one's even showing aqua with gold to taunt me)

I was really looking for a Retro Tuesday theme but I was drowning in a sea of atomic aqua with just enough pink and yellow thrown in the keep me afloat and send me into a drooly mid-century modern frenzy.

Much like these folks.  Although I'd like to think I'm cooler.

I'm not, but I'd like the think so.

Even this one here?  Below.  Can't stand a thing in it and still can't take my eyes off of it.

I never could nuzzle up to the whole wagon-wheel thing but they got me with the color.  I not only want to nuzzle up to that Old Deerfielde Dining room set but I want to have it's children.

Um.  Never mind about that.

Let's all shake off that visual and move on...

But speaking of nuzzling...

Isn't there something crazy appealing about a guy who can't afford furniture.  Am I right?

Or am I right?

Okay, kidding.  I cropped a chair out of the ad.  But what's with her oozy thrill at laying on the floor.  Maybe I'm missing the whole, yay I'm about to get rug burn thing.  I dunno.

I just have to stop Retro Tuesday now.

First because I'm torturing myself...

household magazine 1955

And second because there is no end to the aqua pictures...

And it would just go on until it was Retro Wednesday...

retro wednesday

And than Retro Thursday

And eventually it's just gonna be...

And everyone would be sick of it and emailing me, could you stop now do you think? Um. Please.

So I'm going to bring this Aqua Tuesday to a close but Oh! What a time we had.

Go visit Colorado Lady for Vintage Thingies Thursday! Want to be a RETRO TUESDAY PAL?

Shlumpy about sums it up

I went shopping this morning because well, I don't know why.

Wait, I do.

First, with cleaning out the attic last weekend I realized I have no summer clothes to take down this year. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. My summer wardrobe is a null set.  I'm down half the pounds I need to lose and there's nothing up there for me this year and then there's this...   I feel stuck.

I'm making progress on decluttering my house but my body feels cluttered.  Does that even make sense?

I haven't been to Weight Watchers in about three weeks and lost my ooomph.  I feel blah.  And style impaired (plus fat at the moment).

The word shlumpy about sums it up.

I was looking around for inspiration on style and I like the videos on the Kmart Design Site because they have a cool vibe and an artsy look (which I love) and  the ideas are really good.  I went back to this one which I've always liked...

And it got me thinking...

About how little I think of design in general.  And than about the scarf thing because something like that really finishes outfits and how long has it been since I thought - outfit, anyway?  Much less finishing one.

How long has it since I thought past, is it clean. If we're being honest.

So I went to Lane Bryant this morning because that's the only place I have a credit card.

And hey, no offense Lane Bryant but I could use a place a bit more varied.  I mean I have hot flashes, you know?  And they have a lot of stuff with an excess of zippers and day-glo graffiti graphics and ....Well, on someone who says, is it hot in here to you? Like, 17 times a day wearing too many zippers screams PATHETIC AGING GROUPIE, which I don't know is kind of ew.  Anyway.

I did my best...

Not the scarf I got but close and I'm with Mary, they rock.

Got my own person version of Daisy Dukes.
Or Daisy Dukes for the cellulite set...

And some capri pants for when I don't want to be Daisy Dukeish

Honestly, this shirt looks so much better on.  It's sort
of long and lean and probably better with a tank being a bit shear.

The black and white top thing...

And this blingy tank for under it...

Now this...This looks so much better on I wasn't even go to post a
pic but I got a blazer to wear over it so I'm showing it.
I promise it doesn't look like an oddly wrapped bandage on.

The blazer... Which looks nice over stuff I have too...

The shirt looks nice under this too...

So that was my morning.   I got tired of wearing things I didn't like that did nothing for me or maybe that's not even it because I'm used to that...  I wanted to wait until I was done losing and to be honest spent money I didn't have  - And did everyone in my hemisphere hear me yelling CHARGE IT!  Uh-huh...thought so....

...but I think my efforts to stay in the clothes I was wearing was bringing me down, man.  Way down.  Making me feel I wasn't progressing.  Stagnating. And than I did finally stop progressing because I stopped feeling good about myself.

Or something along those lines.

At least I hope I'm right because now I have these clothes to pay off and if it doesn't help I'll be stalled and have these clothes to pay off.
