The Crazy Suburban Mom: Condoms, kitty litter, and spinach dip...

Condoms, kitty litter, and spinach dip...

Since my bleeding's down to a wimper I saw what the knife wound looked like last night and it was worse than I thought. Seriously gross and disgusting. What is gone is twice the size I imagined which I suppose explains the four day bleeding fest but at least now I only need Band-aids...

And the condom...

Technically called a finger cot. It keeps the finger dry and keeps pressure on although so much pressure, it's not so much throbbing as detonating.

Since there are so many nerve endings in your fingertips - which by the way have perhaps more nerve receptors than any place on your body - the pain isn't just there but referring all over the whole finger.

And of course what we need after hearing about condoms, knife wounds, and the magnitude of grossiosity that used to be my finger is a recipe.

A major casualty of this whole fa-la-la was my Spinach Dip.

Well, not my Spinach Dip, Knorr's Spinach Dip.

Mine didn't come out pretty like that picture this year for reason's I'll explain in a minute. Every year during Superbowl (and most other get-togethers) I make Knorr's spinach dip and serve it in a round loaf of bread although you don't have to serve it in the bread. This stuff rocks so delicious you could serve it in a litter box and people would eat it.

And I know what you're thinking. NO WAY! That's an exaggeration! But being someone who served a kitty litter cake ....

...in a litter box with a litter scoop I know very well that people will eat directly from a litter box.

Where was I?

1 (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
1 container (16 oz.) sour cream ( I use light)
1 cup Mayonnaise (I use light)
1 package Knorr® Vegetable recipe mix
1 can (8 oz.) water chestnuts, drained and chopped
3 green onions, chopped

Combine all ingredients and chill about 2 hours (I've chilled overnight). Serve with your favorite dippers (I serve with sliced bread, raw veggies and chips).

I love this and so does everyone else. I usually make two recipes-worth because it always goes first. This year I made it but I couldn't really cut things up well (with a knife) so I did all the prep with my Kitchen Ninja.

It would have been fine if I just used it for prep instead of actually mixing and I knew it when I was doing it. My kitchen ninja can crush ice; what made me think I could mix the dip without turning it to pulp...Must have been the blood loss.

So, while the dip tasted as good as ever.... it had an odd pulpous, sodden quality happening that wasn't especially appealing.

Live and learn and may you never have to eat mucilaginous dip...

Crud, I wish I had known you were making Spinach dip--Joe had a hankering for some the other day. Just out of the blue he says "Gees, I have a taste for Spinach Dip", which is really odd because I never make Spinach Dip. Maybe he's got a dame on the side that is really good with appetizers. Hmmm.......

Lin, You could always surprise him with that kitty litter cake. It's especially disturbing to folks with cats - for some reason. Seems they have more trouble quite believing the litter box has never been used... Plus they find the melted tootsie rolls much less fun than non cat owners :)

Funny I make the same dip but without the water chesnuts. It is really good! Of course I use low fat mayo and sour cream, but nobody notices. I made some for Xmas.

The kitty litter cake was hilarious and disgusting and I laughed so hard I peed a little (too much info, yes I know).

I hope that finger heals up fast! You should draw a smiley face on the condom to cheer you up!

Vonlipi - OH! Thats right, I use the light stuff too and just added that. I've even used the fat free sour cream which is normally gross but in this recipe you can get away with it because there is much flavor going on. The water chestnuts arent a flavor as much as a texture and I do like that a lot. And that was one of the things missing yesterday - Its a crunch. You should totally make that cake - it's horrifying but I did make it at a party for adults and within a few minutes everyone was scooping in...

I'm not a fan of spinach dip, but I love the tattoo on your finger:)

Ooo! I spy new buttons in your shop! I typed that as "spay" at first...must've been the kitty litter cake.

Yay spinach dip! Hot artichoke dip is also equally as good. And sometimes those recipes off the back of a box are just dang fabulous.

LOL, OMG that kitty litter cake is amazing- have you blogged THAT recipe? I'd love to have it! Poor thing with your finger, well wishes that it continues to mend!

Several years ago the kids made a litter box cake at church.... the lady in charge had to keep telling everyone it was all new stuff.... it doesn't help. I couldn't eat it or even stay around while the kids ate it... I almost puked.

Please be careful with that finger!

The Crazy Suburban Mom 2/8/10, 11:27 AM

Patrice - The tattoo is just on the picture not the finger but I do want a new one!

Tara - I think I have but maybe I should do it again!

Maureen - LOL, its different!

eloh - Its really hard to get passed, Ill give you that. And I had to say the same thing - Its all new. I bought it just for the cake and no, I dont have a cat. Everyone asked if I have a cat.

LOL-On the finger condom and kitty litter cake-But, not on your hurt finger :( Hope it heals up soon. And Mmmm-Spinach Dip-Yumm!

Lidian 2/8/10, 1:33 PM

Hope your finger is better very soon. And as for that cake - uh uh, no thanks, since I deal with the reality every day (lol)

The Crazy Suburban Mom 2/8/10, 1:35 PM

Mom, Yeah - that dip is the best!

Lidian - the cake universally horrifys cat owners - go figure :) First time I made it was for my kids birthday - one little girl kept saying 'are you "SURE' you don't have a cat?

Liz 2/8/10, 10:31 PM

Sorry I had to laugh at the condom thing, but seriously I hope it heals soon. The dip looks yummy!

Jen 2/8/10, 11:26 PM

I want the recipe for the kitty litter cake. I have two kids with a birthday this week and someone go the idea we should get a cat for their birthdays. The cake might make them reconsider.

I hope your finger feels better. My fingers hurt just thinking about yours.
