Retro Tuesday with a reason...

Yay! It's Retro Tuesday again...

retrotuesay stamp

Today I decided to look for things I want to find at estate sales. Things I covet unreasonably ... Things that I remember seeing as a kid and would buy in an instant because just having them would make me happy on a daily basis.

Or things I want for no reason other than I want them.

I want a Chemex Coffee Maker and have for ages.

Chemex Coffee Makers were invented in 1941 and are still being made (Their website is here.) Here is a picture of one of their fabulous new ones and it's pretty much the same as their fabulous old ones. You can't improve on some things.

They can be found on eBay but I'm holding out for an estate sale find.

I've seen a fair amount of Glasbake and it's usually reasonably priced.

But this one, I've never run across...

I'd love to find this 15 inch glass, walnut, and brass warming platter.
Oh, the smartness it would add to my smart dinner parties...

...if I had any smart dinner parties.

On to something I could actually use...

I've found Tupperware crazy-cheap, cheaper than disposable grocery store
plastic. And it lasts. It's already lasted 60 years and some of it's still
perfect - pristine, even.

Holy Burping Lids, Batman! I love Tupperware!

Moving on....

I can get lamps in this style cheap everywhere...

But they don't have the class of these; the new ones aren't
only cheap they totally cheaptastic. In the worst way.

Now this here....

Fascinates me.

I'm not sure if it's that I want this chair or I just want a chair so ridiculously comfortable it made this guy tie up his wife. And of course, I'm assuming it's a husband and wife - cause what wife wouldn't buy a chair that would put this bucolic evening in her future... but I digressed...Where was I? Um.... I was saying I'm assuming this wasn't a pictorial about a random break-in where some guy busts into a strange woman's apartment in a cowboy hat with a six-shooter (On, um... Halloween) which he leaves menacingly draped over the chair arm so she won't forget he's...what? A total lunatic... all because this BarcaLounger is that comfortable for TV viewing.

But man-oh-man, nothing says "Comfortable Lounge Chair" like a little prime time bondage, right? At least that's what I always say.

On second thought. Let's not go there.

I really hope that's his belt buckle in the pic.

I saw a well and tree plate exactly like that not too long ago, couldn't identify it! I'm glad to see it's a Glasbake!

The Chemex coffee pot definitely makes me feel uncomfortable, it has accident written all over it! It's just me....some glass made kitchen ware scare me, I'm always afraid to drop them! The glass was made by Pyrex (of course)lol ;)

I must say I am having an adverse reaction to this 60's home decor. My mom had one of those lamps in the living room with a yucky brown loop sectional sofa. Ewwwww. Nothing warm or home-y about it.

And that Barca Lounger ad! What's that about?

LadyJane If you click you can get to flickr and enlarge and check it out. Buckle or he really really loves the chair :)

Vonlipi - yeah, breakage. Never thought of that :)

Maureen - I KNOW! Its pretty bad isnt it? LOL

I still have Tupperware from when my mom sold it back in the 70's. I've even got some of those lids that had "knife pleats" and orange bowls. They rock!

Is that a doorknob on your lap or are you happy to see me?

Lidian 10/27/09, 6:44 PM

I love all that stuff and now I want it too! I think Tupperware is fab, the modern stuff I have to hold leftovers is pretty horrible really.

I can't wait for my weekly secondhand scrounge on Thursday no...

And that last ad with the married couple - who ever thought THAT image would sell people a chair? Never mind, I don't really want to know...

Lidian 10/27/09, 6:44 PM

Thursday now, not Thursday no - Thursday yes yes! :)

Crap, that picture is disturbing. :)

I remember when you could tell the era of when one was married in by the color of their tupperware. (wedding present staple) I was the dark red, dark orange and yellow. Just after the light green and yellow era.
